BEE scheme was launched by the Hon'ble Minister of Power in May,2006 and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is a Ministry of Power, Government of India. The Standards & Labeling Programme is one of the major thrust areas of BEE. A key objective of this scheme is to provide the consumer an informed choice about the energy saving and thereby the cost saving potential of the relevant marketed product. The scheme targets display of energy performance labels on high energy end use equipment & appliances and lays down minimum energy performance standards.

Benefits of Star Labelling

Star rating schemes allow us to compare the operating cost and environmental performance of similar products. This allows us to make better choices and see the potential on-going future costs and greenhouse gas impacts our decisions may have. Energy labels, on the other hand, are the informative labels affixed to manufactured products in order to provide consumers with the data necessary for making informed purchases.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has "Mandatory / Voluntary scheme" and are covered under BEE.
